I reached the point of no return quite a while ago when it comes to Portraits In The Key Of Punk Rock, today is the day I take a big step forward in making this a reality. Once again I assure you that anything you can help with along the way is more than enough. So what is indiegogo? Indiegogo is a crowdfunding solution that empowers ideas and enables people to donate funds easily (I borrowed that definition from their site.). Think Kickstarter but more artsy. This book won’t make itself and to make it something that people might want to buy is going to take a bit of cash. If I could do this all myself, I assure you I would. The whole goal of Portraits In The Key Of Punk Rock is to showcase Punk Rock and all of it’s many facets and make a bunch of money for a great charity. Little Kids Rock deserves my best, and with the launch of this indiegogo campaign my best may be just that little bit better. I have some really great perks over there including, postcards, prints, canvas prints, copies of the book, signed prints, t-shirts, and your picture in the book. You can see the campaign widget over on the right hand side of the site, clicking on it should take you to the indiegogo site.
You only get one chance to make a first impression and in that sense I think I may have failed. So this is my attempt to make a really good second impression. I was thinking about editing my previous post about Little Kids Rock, but then I thought I would be better off making a second post. You see I have very strong feelings about Little Kids Rock and what their mission is all about. Providing and encouraging music education to children is very important, crucial in fact. I remember the music classes I took in elementary school and it saddens me to know that some children do not have the same chance I did to discover the beauty in the experience of making music. While I did not continue my musical education, I may have if I had got to play the guitar instead of the saxophone, I would not want to take away any child’s chance to flourish as a result of discovering music. I am extremely happy to have the chance to raise money for Little Kids Rock and at the same time create something I feel is important and hopefully beautiful. What better than a book of musicians raising money for possible future musicians? So please follow me along on this wild ride and participate, if you like, in whatever way you can.
I let the cat out of the bag on social media yesterday, but now I’m getting to posting the announcement here. We have partnered with Little Kids Rock as our charity of benefit. All proceeds from the final book will be going to Little Kids Rock and I am happy to do it, they are a great bunch of people with a great cause. Little Kids Rock is the only school-based, pop and rock instrumental music program in the U.S. and is the leading free instrumental music program in the country. Little Kids Rock is bringing music education back to disadvantaged communities. So please follow me on my journey as I bring Portraits In The Key Of Punk Rock to fruition. I will soon be launching an Indiegogo campaign to fund this project, if I could fund it myself I would, maybe next time.
Since I just got the site up today, I will suggest going to the Facebook page for past updates. Facebook and Google+ will get currently happening sort of updates while any major announcements or news will get posted here, in detail, as well. Please let me know what you think of the project and give me any suggestions you might have. Also please like the page on Facebook and share it with whomever you can.
